Hi,
Hoping to find some advice. I have a good business idea that is basically a mental health app supported with AI.
I’ve done the research, I’ve validated the idea and designed something which I think can be really good. However, my skills are in sales/marketing so I would like a technical co-founder to join me on this journey instead of looking to pay £££ for someone to develop the product without being invested for future development.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m just your average girl trying to break that (very low) glass ceiling and do her own thing 🙏
Speaking from experience here, if you haven’t already worked with tech people and have established good relationships with some it’ll be hard to find a good cofounder that you fit with. And one that’s actually engaged in the process. Have you worked with any tech people previously? Try reaching out to them as that’s going to be your best bet. It’s all about the chemistry with cofounders.
Another option is to hire someone to build an MVP for you so at least you can show your product to people, get a better idea or make your chances of brining in a technical cofounder higher. And with an MVP the chances of you getting funding increases significantly. I run a dev/design shop that’s helping founders with this problem specifically since I’ve noticed that people who haven’t been in tech struggle with this problem. If you have questions I’d be happy to answer them. Also I’m running a short survey that’s going to take you 1 minute to fill out (closed questions only), it’d mean a lot to me if you filled it out so that I learn what your pains are better, here’s the link to it - https://tally.so/r/mZ2JRa
Have you any experience in sales and marketing or is it just your skill set you believe you’re good at?
Unless you have specific industry expertise, or general experience with sales and marketing at a higher level, you’re basically looking for someone to do a lot of work for you just because you have the idea. An idea isn’t worth much, so it will be difficult to find a random person to develop your app for free if you aren’t already personally friends with them. Mental health apps are really a dike a dozen and notoriously hard to monetize as well.
I’m not trying to discourage you, just being realistic. If your idea is “talk to an AI that gives you mental health advice” in an app it’s been done.
Try Y-combinator founder matching to test the waters. You’ll get lots of opinions on your idea very quickly and find if there are technical people looking to work with you or not.
Have you validated that someone will actually pay for the product? It’s easy to say, “sure, I’ll pay for it.” It is another thing to get them to actually pay for it. You can overcome this by getting people to sign a non binding letter of intent.
How have you validated the idea?
Sorry, something more than just an idea?
Btw, that’s not so new. Iirc, I saw akin projects. Have you done any research?

Trying to find a cofounder who can be a good fit with you like this is going to be really, really hard.
Hello, I’m a dev who loves to work on mental-health related projects, I have already built a diary app with ai generated suggestions - https://natai.app and i do have therapyBy.ai domain purchased. Send me a message, maybe we can work together
Will DM you :)
I might be interested but I would require a budget of $25k/year to hire a developer part time
Hi Im a middle software engineer! Also have an experience in gamedev! Your idea sounds interesting for me. I can help you build that…
I have a technical background and am interested in this space. Feel free to reach out via chat for an initial conversation.
So… This subreddit doesn’t have a lot of love for “I have an idea - I need a tech person to build it” posts because more often than not, the idea isn’t worth a lot (“execution is everything”) and often the idea hasn’t gone through sufficient validation to warrant a technical person pouring unpaid time/effort into it at this stage.
Feel free to DM me your pitch deck and I’ll give you an honest [technical] opinion on whether or not you’ve got something or if you need to “do more” before you can engage a technical bod.
Will DM you, any feedback is good feedback
Thanks and I do understand what you’re saying. It’s all a part of the learning journey. I also understand having someone build something upfront is a big ask so I was going to compensate, just wqs hoping maybe at a discounted rate if they wanted to also be co-founder
Hey, I have a similar idea and would love to collaborate. I don’t need any pay; I’m willing to work as a founder. Let’s chat more about this on Discord: remastergod.
