I want to support local business but in the town I live in (southern maine) so many of them have the weirdest hours. Like open Monday to Thursday from 10 to 5. How is anyone supposed to go there? I feel like this is a newer thing?

Banks keep the average person’s workday hours b/c most of their money is from businesses.
Wholesale nurseries and other businesses that serve contractors do so in a similar fashion.
A business in a retiree town can keep these same hours because their target customers aren’t working anymore.
Within the context of OP’s post where they didn’t mention what kind of businesses these were, you can’t just look at the days and hours that they’re open and make a blanket statement that they’re on the verge of going out of business. You need more context than that.
