I want to support local business but in the town I live in (southern maine) so many of them have the weirdest hours. Like open Monday to Thursday from 10 to 5. How is anyone supposed to go there? I feel like this is a newer thing?

    things changed over the pandemic.

business realized that they didnt need to open 7 days a week anymore. they close the store during their slowest periods of the week and only open when the bulk of their customers use their store. if a pizza shop does 95% of their weekly business Thurs-Saturday, there is no point in opening the other days of the week. they can just close up and do something else those days. employees can work a 2nd shop somewhere else if they choose to. I know alot of bbq restaurants in Austin do this.

NYC is no longer open 24/7 these days. Coffee shops especially used to be open really weird hours catering to the late owls but not anymore. its not worth to keep the lights on, pay employees, to work those hours where the store only breaks even. not worth it. better to just close the store.
