Hello everyone. I’m starting up my business selling small figurines, jewelry and other trinkets online. For now, a photographer friend took my product photos but I’d like to take this into my own hands eventually. I’m wondering if a smartphone with a good camera would be enough or do I need a real camera? I’ve heard newer iPhones have amazing cameras. I’ve always been and Android person but my current smartphone has a crappy camera and I’m thinking of buying something new. Also, I use a MacBook so iPhone would be nice to sync everything… but the price makes me unsure.
What do you use and what’s your experience? Would you buy a camera or an iPhone (or an other smartphone?) if you were in my place? Thanks y’all!
If you’re not already somewhat capable with a DSLR camera, I would just start with an iPhone
I’m an amateur photographer as well. A common misconception among people who aren’t already into photography is that the type of camera will make the most difference in photo quality. That is often not the case. The knowledge of how to set up both the camera and the lighting is most important.
Product photography can be much more challenging than it would seem. Many pros who specialize in product images have specific kinds of lights and a special setup. You might want to ask for more detailed advice on r/photography.
