Iam 26 M. I did my civil engineering in 2018 and then worked as a civil engineer for a year then covid happened and i taught myself coding and got a job in a small startup and worked there as a software engineer for 1 year and now my father wants me to take over his business (manufacturing and packaging of mineral water) Which he is running for the past 8 years. My parents only chose enroll me in civil engineering which i regret now because that field is very bad and so not suitable for me and now with the business also they are forcing me to do so because they dont want to sell it.

The thing is what i really like is making youtube videos which iam doing side by side because when i was working 9-5 as a software engineer i had all the time outside of my job for my youtube channel. But now that iam again helping my dad in his business eventually i have to take over everything. In this business we have to work 12 hours a day and 7 days a week (mostly be present at the factory and just monitor people). People who will be suggesting to hire someone, here you cant trust most of the people because the transaction is mostly done with cash.

Regarding my youtube its not a big channel but its doing good recently…i atleast want some free time to make youtube videos and edit them (which takes a lot of time) and i cant tell my parents about youtube because they have a mindset of the old generation so they can’t understand it.

The money from the business is decent but i just cant seem to sit here the whole day do some 2-3 hours of work 24/7 without any weekends. I just dont see myself doing this for the next 20 years. Iam really passionate about my youtube and i know i will pop off one day.

My plan was to work 9-5 and do youtube in the remaining time. Youtube is my long term goal.

What are your thoughts about this? Should i take over the business and give very less time to youtube or do my 9-5 and do youtube side by side?

Family business sounds like easy money. Just do that and work on your youtube stuff at work.

What does a mineral water company entail? Out of curiosity. Like do you guys source it and bottle it? Then sell it.

We basically purify the water from the powerplant machines and then bottle it in a 20L Jar and then distribute it to the customers like malls, shops, hospitals etc

Don’t listen to these bitter people on here.

Life is too short to hate what you do, let alone hate a business that you own and operate. That’s a lose lose for you and the business.

Follow your dream and live the life you want. Your engineer degree is a great fallback should your other efforts not work out.

You are offered an actual business. But instead you want to screw around where you have one gatekeeper controlling who views your videos and the same gatekeeper controlling the terms of your payment from who views your videos. You need a mentor other than your dad to talk sense into your life.

I’m just curious why the manufacturing and packaging of mineral water is mostly a cash business.

Who is this idiot that refuses the means of production? You’re so stupid that you’d rather be famous than wealthy.

You’re a child. And a disappointment to your family on top of that.

You will regret joining family business, and will be under your parent’s thumb. Do what you like or atleast give you financial independence.

Jesus…introduce me to your family. I’ll take over the business. I’ve been in beverage for over 20 years. Yeah, it can be a PITA, but it is also very easy…especially water!!! Super low risk with the right controls. Fuckin A man.

While you may have a passion for YouTube do you ever think about what happens if it doesn’t work out? Lots of YouTube failures out there, and YouTube won’t be forever. At least you got another plan that is staring at you in the face.

Man you’re acting stupid. A system is been given to you to make millions if you scale it up. You can literally retire in 5-10 years and make your crappy videos. I don’t think you understand how difficult it is to make it on YT. Look at r/new tubers.

Never chase money. Find a way to make YouTube videos while also bringing in income. Regret the things you did, not the things you didn’t do. Nothing like getting further into life (happens fast ) and looking back with regret.

Hey bro i acnt relate to you much As i have some but small problem with my family As per me you should join and expand you business fully but catch is that you can transform your business to next level means you will be required to spend less time and start doing youtube i know it will take long about 10 years but you can continue youtube share your journey which will surely boost your youtube .you can also bring technology to your factory you need to work hard . I THINK first option will be too difficult as your family will surly pressure you from every angle i ment emotional tooo. I think sooo
