I’ve been freelancing motion graphics/vfx for 2 years now. I’ve worked on over 20 tv shows for network and streaming, and have good skills to manage and operate a small business.

I’m at a point where I feel like I can make more money than I do, consistently, by starting my own agency. As of now I’ve only worked for companies, but I’ve begun to have them reach out to me for work as well. I’m just not sure what markets are the best for my work outside of digital marketing. Where can I start having the conversation and potentially working on a team?

With the limited info provided, I would just caution that being good at your job (not fully knowing what it is within the industry you mentioned) can very well be different from managing a business which ultimately must be profitable and approached with a financial mind, in addition to the more interesting side of it with the skills you bring and value you bring to your end customer / client.

Agree you should focus on what you’re good at, as ultimately you’ll need to prove why someone should use you instead of someone else and your expertise will drive that. So question you should answer is while you say other companies have approached you for work (unclear exactly what you meant by that), what context is this in and does this translate into bringing customers / sales.

Find your niche. You’ve got mad skills in motion graphics/VFX, so maybe focus on industries that heavily rely on that. Gaming, advertising, film – you name it.
