I have an appliance repair business. I charge for labor and parts. I mark up my parts a flat percentage. How do I respond when a customer wants me to breakdown the cost of labor vs parts? Because I know what they are really trying to do is see if they can find the part cheaper on the internet.

Tell them no, and then ask, “do you want us to do the work or would you rather go elsewhere?” This is the price.

Altho if you wanna buy the part yourself, I’ll take $5 off the total price (assuming the part is a couple hundred)

TLDR: honestly chase these ppl away. They’re always a headache. Let em be someone else’s.

Source: sbo in the trades for a decade. These type of customers suck ass lol
