I had a reward program at our coffee shop. We offered a special card that they would scan at each purchase. Our POS system would record their spending and they would be rewarded with either free coffee or something else when they hit certain goals…the idea is that people what free stuff so the loyalty program rewards them from being loyal at no cost to me.

Loyalty Program: A loyalty program is a marketing tactic used by businesses to entice clients to keep buying their products or services. Consumers who engage with the brand or make repeat purchases usually receive points or awards. The goal of these initiatives is to increase customer loyalty and retention. Here’s an article that you might find helpful: Customer loyalty and retention.

An example would be a coffee shop that offers a loyalty card. Customers can purchase coffee and earn stamps for each purchase. Once they reach a particular number of stamps, they can redeem their card for a free coffee.

Rewards program: A rewards program is a broader term for several programs where customers receive rewards, incentives, or bonuses for being loyal or engaging in certain behaviors. This can include special access, freebies, discounts, or other benefits.

An airline rewards program, for instance, might allow users to accrue miles for every ticket, which they can then use to book free flights, get upgrades, or get other travel-related perks.

Or if you have an ecommerce store on Shopify, a 3rd party app with a loyalty & rewards program can improve the performance of your online store.

For example, a Shopify store using Growave might set up a loyalty program where customers earn points for each purchase, and these points can be redeemed for discounts on future purchases.
