People who start a business to make money and look for the shiny penny that works often dont last long. I would focus on a problem that I’m trying to solve using my skills and knowledge and let that be the driving force of the business.

Many start their own business out of necessity, when they lose a job. Less stressful way to get started is do it as a side hustle.

You’re only 21? You’re still a baby! You have plenty of time to figure out your business. But I’ll give you some tips anyway.

First, don’t worry about social media. It’s a huge time suck, and it’s not necessary to start a successful business.

Instead, focus on building relationships with people. Talk to your friends, family, and neighbors. Let them know what you’re doing, and see if they can help you out.

You can also network with other entrepreneurs. Attend industry events, and join online forums. The more people you know, the more likely you are to find success.

    I’ll give an example!

Go to a thrift store and buy the ugliest shirt you can find. Put on the shirt and go to the busiest intersection in your city. Start dancing and singing your business jingle. People will be so startled and confused by your behavior that they’ll be sure to remember your business name.

Of course, this is just a joke. But it does illustrate an important point: you need to do something different to stand out from the competition.

If you’re serious about starting a business, you need to have a clear plan and be willing to put in the hard work. But most importantly, you need to believe in yourself and your business idea.

And finally, don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is a part of the learning process. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep going.

Now, go out there and start rocking the business world!

    Good luck!

No offense but onlyfans is an option

If someone makes fun of you for it, just call them incel/misogynist and profit.

You will probably get a lot of comments but I’ll just start here. Please don’t over romanticize “being your own boss” or “having your own busines.” Its not that you are young but from your statement it doesn’t seem like you have a passion or actual experience that normally lends it self to a successful or even low-money but rewarding business. I’ve had several businesses started in my twenties but they were a product of passion and I invested a lot of money into the ventures. All were ok but it’s a lot of hard work and sacrifice, even though I was working from home. Get a job in a field that interests you and observe how the busines works very carefullly. Also if you do jump into a business try to do a lot of research yourself l(not random redditors) on insurance, taxes, cost of good and services, logistics, and what your product even is and why people would hire or buy things from you. What differentiates your product and how are you going to market it? What makes you different from the many others who have the same idea?

This, listen to this. My wife and I started a nonprofit when she was 19 that is now multi-million a year, 20 years later, but you have to start a business that you are passionate about. And I worked to support it for years and years.

What? This always confused me. How do non-profits make $? If they’re a non-profit to begin with? What is non-profit about them?

There is a huge general misconception about the term non-profit. It doesn’t mean that people can’t make money on it, making big salaries, even lavish offices, perks and sucking money into the organization. There could be an entire reddit sub on this topic, how NGO, non-profit, Fair Trade descriptions are misconstrued to mean that it’s altruistic or people are working there in poverty. I know many who have quit good jobs in regular publicly traded corporations and make more money in NGO work.

There’s two ways to approach starting your own business. Either you have such a crazy passion for it that you’ll work to the bone and force being successful, this tends to mean 16 hour days, lots of wasted money and lessons learned, and whole lot of head aches. But if you’re smart and, quite frankly, lucky, you can make it happen.

Other option, and the one I recommend to the majority of young entrepreneurs, is to get a job in the field you are looking to enter.

Waste someone else’s money learning and get paid for the learning phase, yes it’s less rewarding but most people end up far better off. I worked in my field for 5 years before starting my own thing, and when I started I got off to a great start and only made a few mistakes compared to starting from scratch.

I even tell my staff if they ever want to do it on their own one day, just learn and make mistakes with my resources before moving on. If you’re good, and have a caring mentor, they’ll probably even open up some doors for you.

Just start and youll figure it out or youll fail. Repeat that process again and again until you feel you are happy and successful. That is the secret is that there is no secret. Start, succeed/fail, repeat.

Small business can have a lot of moving parts for someone new to handle.

However, one thing all small businesses have in common is management.

So, if you are struggling with ideation, get a job as manager trainee for some retail operation so you can begin to learn what it takes to successfully manage a business.

I finally started mine but I had been dreaming about this since I was your age. I would say if you have some extra money and you love what you do, just do it, make mistakes but also commit to things. Never half do anything. Fully commit to something you believe with confidence. Maybe it won’t work and you get experience. But I am regretting now so many businesses I started that were perfect but I didn’t have the confidence to fully commit. I never regreted a business that failed though.

You have to ask yourself why you want to start it. I’ll give you a brief description of my story; at about your age I got into building tiny model ships that other people collected like stamps. I was so good at it that people started to ask if they could buy them. So I learned how to build lots of copies at the same time as batches. I didn’t make much money but I felt like I had to do it because I was so interested in it and found it so rewarding to serve my customers. It taught me about organisation, shipping, budgeting and that kind of thing.

15 years later I have a much more evolved and sophisticated hobby product business, but the passion that drives it is more or less the same. You don’t have to be passionate about a certain thing, but you do have to be really interested in building a system that make or serves that thing for profit. It’s just easier to learn how to build that kind of system when you actually care about the product or service and find it very engaging.

With so little info in your post it’s hard to say whether you should. If you just don’t want a 9 to 5, learn a trade and become self employed, but that’s not quite the same as starting a business. That’s starting a job - which is also fine.

So tell us a bit more and maybe we can advise better.
