I started a small business up last year, llc vendors license all that, (tree service) in Ohio. I thought I had some help with my sales tax and here to find out it hasn’t been paid at all (my ex)… got a couple of letters from Ohio attorney general stating $600, $900, and now today one for $4,999 which seems kind of random to me… I know I owe some money obviously but what would the best route be to take to fix all of this?

The first step is to file the missing reports and pay what you actually owe. The bill they are sending is guessing at your sales, and it likely incorrect. File correctly, to greatly reduce the amount due.

Have fun! The Ohio AG is relentless when they are actively ignored.

I suggest you find a good tax preparer (CPA or EA) who has experience with dealing with the AG’s office. You are likely going to need their expertise of the law and system to help you navigate it.

But of course, the first step is to actually file and pay all of the outstanding returns. Especially if there were no sales in a filing period.
