Hi everyone,

I run a small business with a few friends where we sell PowerPoint templates online. I just found out that a (sort of) similar website, Domont Consulting, has copied some of our slides and are selling them as their own at a 10x price increase. They put them into a bigger, self-branded package but it’s very clear that their newest product contains our material, both graphics, layout, and text.

What should I do?

  • Ignore them and just focus on making our own business even better?
  • Send them a friendly email and hope it was an unfortunate mistake?
  • Something else?

I’m leaning towards the first option of just focusing on growing our own business, but on the other hand I’m afraid that’ll just keep copying our material and basically stealing our many, many hours of hard work.

I appreciate any and all advice or if someone has experienced something similar!

[Note for mods: not sure if this counts as a “personal attack” but wanted to give context to the type of product we’re selling. If needed I can completely remove the other business’ name]

Call a lawyer, and apart from suing them, in the future, register all templates with the lawyer, so it can be proven by the lawyer registration timestamp that you made it first, before you even publish it.
