So before I started my business I worked for my old boss for 10 years. He would always talk about being careful about stuff “because OSHA could show up” like they were some type of boogeyman. In those 10 years I never once saw anyone from any type of regulatory body.

So was my boss just being paranoid? What are the odds someone from OSHA actually would be around? have you ever dealt with them?

I work in IT governance, risk, and compliance…

This being said, my counterparts in facilities at the deal with OSHA . Why in gods name would you be doing anything thats counter to OHSA anyways?

In my world, you can get audited by different people, depending on which vertical you’re servicing… Every single one of my clients, whether or not, they have to adhere to a policy framework are protected in the same way. Just because you don’t have to adhere to data governance principles, does it mean that it’s a bad idea.

From the facilities perspective, why would you not follow OSHA’s recommendations?

All of the recommendations make the workplace a safer place. You should be following with or without the fear of them visiting.

Why would you not follow OSHA? Because your main impetus as a business owner to make yourself money, and compliance and equipment cost. Cutting corners is cheap until it isn’t but plenty of bosses are willing to ride that gravy train as long as possible.

You want to be compliant with the directives because you have love in your heart and you want to keep people safe. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you…
